NEWBURGH – During the last six weeks of the year, Orange County Legislator Curlie Dillard of Newburgh will be serving as a member of the Independence Party. He changed his registration from Democrat, but it will not take effect until after the general election.
Dillard made the change on October 11 because of the “turmoil”
in the Democratic Party.
“The turmoil that I speak of is the wrangling of the party members. I’m not saying the Democratic Party is not of value, but is just not of value to me at this point in my life,” he said.
Wappingers social studies teacher Anthony Tarsio is running for Dillard’s district seat on the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines.
“I plan on expanding the programs here at OCCC and BOCES. I plan on expanding economics and job opportunities here in the City of Newburgh and town,” Tarsio said. “I am a public school teacher so I understand the importance of public dollars and a good education. I am also a product of a small family business and I understand what private money looks like and why that matters. I know what it takes to be in business and I am a veteran, and I know those issues are important and matter.”
Dillard has endorsed Tarsio in his race against Kevindaryan Lujan, who is running on the Democratic and Working Families lines.
