High water, again, in flood-prone Livingston Manor
MID-HUDSON – The heavy rains that placed portions of Livingston Manor under water overnight Sunday forcing evacuations have receded. Schools were closed Monday because of the flooding that had shopkeepers mopping out stores Monday morning.
In other areas, electricity was knocked out because of downed power lines.
The lights were out in NYSEG’s Carmel territory from 10 p.m. Sunday until about 12:40 p.m. Monday. Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell closed the County Office Building in downtown Carmel because of the outage.
Utility officials said some 42,000 customers in the Mid-Hudson Valley
and Southern Tier were without power during the event. As of 8 p.m. Monday,
NYSEG reported close to 11,000 customers were still without power.
Orange and Rockland Utilities reported that as midnight Monday, they expected most of their customers to have power restored.
Some 23,000 customers had lost during the storm.
