WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County corrections officers’ union leadership may have backed Republican County Executive Robert Astorino for re-election, but two fraternal organizations are backing his opponent, Democrat George Latimer.
Corrections officer Damon Jones, the New York representative to the group Blacks in Law Enforcement of America, was critical of the bargaining unit leaders.
“I think it is really disingenuous for the president to stand with Astorino. We are still without a contract,” Jones said “Politically if he signed us a contract, I would understand why the union president would stand there. We are still without a contract.
Meanwhile, Brooke Jones, president of Westchester Corrections Association, said Astorino is “reckless and short-sighted” with budgets that have put officers in a dangerous position.
