New life for a building dormant for a decade

MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown school board has approved the sale of the former Memorial Elementary School in Middletown to a Massachusetts woman. The purchase price is $188,000.
Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Eastwood said the facility, which will be a non-profit educational school, will be a boost for the Linden Avenue area of Middletown.
“I think it is also going to benefit the community by the new type of school that is going to be in there for students and community members,” Eastwood said. “It is my understanding that the school is going to be music oriented during the day as well as after-school possibilities as well.”
The remodeling of the building, which has been vacant for some 10 years, is presently under review by the Middletown City Planning Board.
