CARMEL – Dozens lined up at Carmel Fire Department headquarters
Monday to receive inoculations against the dreaded flu.
Kathy Percacciolo of Garrison, the County Department of Health’s
supervising public health nurse, called flu “highly communicable.
It causes severe respiratory illness and it results in hospitalizations
and deaths in both the elderly and very young.”
County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Nesheiwat added, “Getting
vaccinated as early as possible has advantages since it takes about two
weeks for antibodies to develop and provide protection. Getting a flu
shot is important for a host of reasons, keeping us healthy, saving money
on medical and prescription costs and because it is the socially responsible
thing to do.”
If you missed Monday’s flu clinic, two additional clinics on both
the eastern and western sides of the county will be available next month
– on October 18 at the Garrison Fire Department and on October 23
back at the Carmel firehouse.
