SAUGERTIES – A Saugerties
man with a 2015 DWI conviction has been arrested and charged with felony
DWI after crashing into a utility pole early Saturday morning.

Saugerties Police found a 2014 Jeep Wrangler on its side after driving
through a utility pole at around 3:30.

The driver, Thomas Hines IV, 45, told police he swerved to avoid hitting
a deer on a turn in the area of Route 212 and Pine Lane in the Village
of Saugerties.

Officers determined Hines was intoxicated. He submitted to a chemical
test, which determined he had a blood alcohol content of .21 percent.

Because of his previous DWI conviction, Hines was charged with felony
DWI and failure to stay in his lane.

He was released to a third party pending a court appearance.

Diaz Ambulance treated Hines for injuries sustained from the crash.
