City of Kingston wins state $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant

KINGSTON – The City of Kingston is the latest municipality in the
region to win a $10 million state Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.
Governor Andrew Cuomo came to the state’s first capital to announce
the grant at a packed house of local supporters at Keegan’s Ale
House.

“This is literally going to be transformational for our community,”
Mayor Steven Noble said. Ulster County Executive Michael Hein noted the
city has begun a renaissance.

The plan, developed by a city committee, will center on the city’s
Stockade District and its rebirth with residential and commercial opportunities.

The City of Middletown won the $10 million DRI in the first regional round.

Since then, the City of Hudson won the $10 million prize in the Capital
District.
Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison offered congratulationsto Kingston.
“When one city prospers, the region prospers,” he said.
