NEW CITY – A Harriman man was sentenced in Rockland County Court to 15 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on his conviction if felony burglary.
On July 6, 2016 at about 4 a.m., Gerson Sosa, 35, of Harriman entered a house by removing the air conditioning unit from a bedroom window to steal a cell phone. A nine-year-old girl was sleeping in the room.  He climbed into bed with the girl, embraced her said, “Don’t worry; your mom said I could sleep here tonight.” The child fled to her parents’ room uninjured.
Sosa fled before the parents returned to the child’s room. Nothing was stolen.
Police later found Sosa’s fingerprints on the air conditioning unit and he was arrested two days later.
He had previously served one year in the Rockland County Jail on a 2015 conviction for burglary.
“Sadly, the defendant stole the young victim’s sense of security that she was safe in her own bedroom,” said Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.
