Ellenville bank robbery suspect caught

ELLENVILLE – Police have
arrested the man who they believe held up the Bank of America branch on
Canal Street in Ellenville Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on information received late Tuesday night, police executed a parole
warrant on Main Street in Grahamsville in which three people were picked
up. Simultaneously, police also picked up two other people on First Street
in Kerhonkson.

All five were brought back to Ellenville Police headquarters for questioning
and investigators recovered significant physical evidence connected to
the bank robbery. Ellenville Police wound up charging Kip Banks, Jr.,
also known as “Suckafree Banks,” 25, of Montgomery, with robbery
and violation of parole, both as felonies.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s office helped solve
the crime in less than 20 hours.

At around 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a man entered the bank branch, handed
the teller a note and made of with cash.
