SAUGERTIES – A man with addresses in Kingston and Saugerties is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail following the attack on his former girlfriend. She sustained several non-life-threatening lacerations to her arm and hand.
The 26-year-old woman told Saugerties Police that just before 4 p.m. on Monday, August 21, Damien Nace, 21, refused to leave her apartment, argued with her and then began to assault her. He reportedly kicked the woman, knocked her to the floor, jumped on top of her and choked her with one hand while striking her with the other.
She managed to break free and lock herself in her bedroom and called police. But the victim said Nace kicked in the door, threw her on the bed and began choking her again and reportedly cut her with a knife.
Nace stopped his attack when he heard police sirens. The woman ran from the house where she met officers.
Nace was found hiding in a bathroom where he was taken into custody. He was charged with felony burglary and assault and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
Police said additional charges are being filed against Nace for obstructing breathing/blood circulation, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics. Saugerties Police were assisted at the scene by sheriff’s deputies.
