Man cutting down tree dies when it falls on him

UNION VALE – A Union Vale
man died when a tree he was cutting down fell on him.

State Police said the 38-year-old victim, whose name they did not immediately
release, was felling trees with a chainsaw before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday
as he cleared a vacant parcel on Mallory Road.

He was struck and became pinned under the large tree. First responders
attempted to remove him from under the tree. He lost consciousness and
state troopers, assisted by EMStar EMS commenced life-saving measures.

The victim was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie
where he died.

The incident remains under investigation and appears to be accidental
in nature, police said.

State Police were assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office,
Union Vale Rescue Squad, Union Vale Fire Department and EMStar Ambulance.
