Parts of the ancient jail are over a century old
MONTICELLO – Sullivan County officials are weighing their options as to future uses of the current county jail when the new complex is completed and operational in the next year-and-a-half.
County Manager Joshua Potosek said all opportunities are on the table.
“The county has some space issues, both the court, the DA and we have some general space issues – election machines – so one option we are looking look at is a municipal building, but we are also considering put it back on the tax rolls as some sort of economic development trying to get jobs and/or potential housing in and around the village to try to support Monticello,” he said.
Potosek said he is having discussions with Monticello Village and Town of Thompson officials about possible future uses of the old jail.
