MONSEY – A 14-month-old
boy was struck and killed by a taxicab as it backed out of a driveway
after picking up a fare in Monsey Sunday evening.
Ramapo Town Police said at 5 p.m., a 2015 Toyota Prius taxicab, driven
by a 41-year-old Monsey man, had picked up a fare on Johanna Lane and
was backing down the driveway when he struck the child.
Hatzolah Ambulance transported the boy to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern
where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and the Ramapo
Police Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Division conducted a
reconstruction and investigation.
Police said at this time no tickets or charges were issued to the driver
pending further investigation.
