City council approves terms of contract with new Middletown police chief

MIDDLETOWN – New Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw is starting
his position with a three-year contract with the city with a starting
salary of $185,000 a year.
The agreement, approved by the common council Monday night, runs through July 31, 2020 and will include a two percent salary increase in the second and third years.
Ewanciw, who was promoted from his position of lieutenant, replaces Ramon Bethencourt, who just retired. He ended his tenure with an annual salary of $207,000.
