GOSHEN – New volunteer firefighters from 12 departments graduated Thursday night from Orange County firefighting school. A total of 20 men and women took the “firefighter 1” class, which began in early June and concluded on July 14.
The class consisted of an accelerated blended learning format including online coursework in conjunction with skills training completed at the county fire training center in New Hampton.
Graduates belong to the following departments: Bullville, Chester, Cronomer Valley, Goodwill, Middletown, Monroe, New Windsor, Orange Lake, Port Jervis, South Blooming Grove, Unionville and Woodbury.
“Due to the high temperatures and accelerated formal, this course was extremely challenging,” said County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali. “This class endured through the conditions and met the challenges successfully.”
“These brave men and women have made a commitment to public service and have shown a willingness to risk their own lives to save others, which is admirable and to be applauded by all,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus.
