Mayor Rolison chats with a customer

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess Outreach, a Poughkeepsie-based organization that addresses food insecurity among other things, has partnered with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables to the community at no charge.
According to Dutchess Outreach Development Associate Sarah Salem, 26.8 percent of Poughkeepsie suffers from food insecurity which translates to one out of every four houses in the area.
Mayor Robert Rolison was present at the inaugural event of the market on Friday afternoon at a municipal lot at the intersection of North Hamilton Street and the westbound arterial and spent time speaking with the various volunteers thanking them for their efforts on a day when the temperature made being outside “uncomfortable.”
The farm stand will pop up every third Friday at 2:30 p.m.
at the same location and will operate until 4:30 p.m. or when
the food is gone.
The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York will be providing pallets of food for volunteers to distribute on a first-come, first-serve basis.  There is no residency requirement and no need to produce identification.
