KINGSTON – The Ulster
County grand jury Tuesday indicted a Saugerties man on a charge of vehicular
manslaughter in connection with a fatal one-car crash on Route 32 in the
Town of Saugerties.
It is alleged that John Playford, 21, was driving a Jeep Cherokee on January
31 at a high rate of speed while intoxicated when the vehicle struck a
utility pole, crossed the road and struck a house.
Playford’s passenger, Jacob Sweeney, 22, of Saugerties, was ejected
from the vehicle and killed.
