SAUGERTIES – A Rhinebeck man was arrested late Sunday afternoon after he lost control of his vehicle and ran off Glasco Turnpike in Saugerties and crashed into a ditch.
Police said Patrick Dowling, 60, was driving while intoxicated on Glasco Turnpike in the Town of Saugerties around 5:45 p.m.  He was engaged in a domestic dispute with a 45-year-old woman passenger and allegedly struck her in the face, causing a nosebleed.  The woman grabbed her phone, but Dowling slapped it from her hand and then lost control, crashing the vehicle.
The woman fled the vehicle and was located by responding officers. Despite her injuries, she declined medical attention.
Dowling was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable and prudent and moving from a lane unsafely.
Police are continuing to investigate the domestic incident and said additional charges are pending.
