WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Board of Legislators voted Monday night to spend nearly $9.5 million to rehabilitate the historic pool at Playland Park in Rye. The facility was first opened in 1927.
“We were very pleased with Standard Amusements’ understanding of the importance of this pool, and importance of keeping it a pool, to the surrounding communities,” said Majority Leader Catherine Borgia.
Legislator Catherine Parker, who pushed the legislation, said that during “the long process to get to this point I made clear that due to costs, a public amenity such as Playland Pool could never be replaced by high prices private club memberships.” She said she also heard from local residents and local officials about “the serious concerns they had with any alternative options to the pool.”
