New Jersey trucker arrested in Thruway hit-and-run fatal

SLOATSBURG – A Vineland, New Jersey man has been arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident on the southbound Thruway at 4 a.m. on Saturday morning near the Ramapo Rest Area.
Paul Peacock, 54, of New York City, was walking across the superhighway when he was struck and killed by a passing truck.
Scott Spooner, 59, of New Jersey was arrested at about 12:15 p.m. when his damaged truck was found in the Pilot Travel Center on Route 17 in Mahwah, New Jersey. Spooner was located with his truck as police checked truck stops in the region.
State Police were assisted by the Mahwah, New Jersey Police Department.
Spooner was sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
