WARWICK – A Warwick man was arrested on Thursday by Warwick Town Police who shut down a large marijuana distribution operation.
Thomas Cancel, 25, was pulled over for a traffic violation on Route 94. An officer with a K-9 discovered 12.4 pounds of marijuana and a small amount of marijuana oil in his vehicle.
Cancel’s residence at 327 Route 94 in Warwick was searched.  Officers seized 15 pounds of suspected marijuana, 233 vials of marijuana oil, 3.8 pounds of marijuana wax, an illegal shotgun, scales, money counting machines and items commonly used to produce marijuana oil. Officers also seized $97,000 in cash and a 2006 Toyota pickup truck.
Lt. Thomas Maslanka believes they know where the drugs are coming from.
“A lot of this stuff is being imported to New York State from other states that have legalized these things,” Maslanka said. “The oil was sent here directly but there was evidence in this case that the wax and oil was also being produced in the suspect’s residence.”
Cancel is in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail on charges of felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drugs and criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of state and federal agencies.
