Reward offered in murder of 19-year-old in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – New York State
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading
to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death
of James Stevens in the City of Newburgh on May 19.

Stevens, 19, was gunned down in the area of 10 Bush Avenue.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the New York
State Crime Stoppers hotline at 866-313-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain
anonymous. There is no caller ID on the New York State Crime Stoppers
hotline phones.

Another man was murdered this week, but police were able to arrest him
the same day. Wilfredo Mercado, 51, was charged with killing Robert Munson,
61, who worked at the Youth Advocate Program Shelter at 44 Grand Street.
Mercado, a registered sex offender who did state prison time for a rape,
was staying at that shelter.
