TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the man who died head-on crash on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast on Tuesday.
Gelsomino Lombardo, 59, of Hopewell Junction, was killed when his car crossed into the opposite lane of traffic around 1:10 p.m. and crashed head-on into an SUV driven by Josephine Cardone, 69, of Bayside, Queens. Both she and her husband, Peter, 72, were injured and taken to the hospital.
Two sheriff’s deputies, Kevin Radovich and Thomas Curran, were patrolling on Route 22 and came upon the accident moments after it occurred. They assisted at the scene along with state troopers and a passing federal Homeland Security investigator.
The accident remains under investigation.
