TOWN OF WALLKILL – State
Police Saturday released the identity of the 15-year-old girl, who was
struck and killed as she walked across Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill
on Thursday night.

The victim was Hope Vandermark of Middletown, who was struck by a pickup
truck as she walked across the westbound lane of highway with a group
of other teenagers. She was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the
others was reported injured.

Troopers said the truck was driven by a 20-year-old Bloomingburg man,
Nicholas Hurst. He was not charged in the incident because investigation
revealed he was not impaired, distracted or speeding, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
