NEW WINDSOR – Driving while intoxicated by alcohol is nothing new and to many people, neither is driving under the influence of illicit drugs.
Driving while on narcotics was the topic of an Orange County Stop-DWI conference attended by some 300 law enforcement officers from across the region, said District Attorney David Hoovler.
“The focus of this year’s conference and the majority of the training was on impaired driving by drugs, particularly opioids and marijuana as there seems to be a rise in that offense,” Hoovler said. “So, the focus was on collecting and preserving evidence related to impaired drivers caused by opioids and marijuana.”

Officers attended from the nine-county region – Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Sullivan, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and Sheriff Carl DuBois also provided remarks to the officers attending the New Windsor conference.
