POUGHKEEPSIE – The Youth Coalition, a recently formed alliance in Poughkeepsie, has issued a report with recommendations to augment existing services focusing on the youth of the City of Poughkeepsie.
Coalition member Alex Reese noted the need to invest in the city’s youth where the poverty rate among those under the age of 18 is 35 percent.
“We have to work hard at creating the infrastructure of sharing, of collaboration, and of data sharing and analysis between disparate groups such as the school systems, between the independent program providers, between the law enforcement communities, and most particularly empower the communities we serve, which are the families in Dutchess County and the City of Poughkeepsie,” Reesesaid.
The coalition report was released as the county has issued a request
for proposals in hopes of contracting for an individual or organization
to examine and analyze how youth services are provided in the county and
propose a specific youth empowerment plan to enhance the county-wide youth
services delivery system.
