MIDDLETOWN – Fei Tian College of Fine and Performing Arts has purchased an old, vacant building at the former Middletown Psychiatric Center, which will be redeveloped for dormitories for students.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said it would have cost $1.5 million to raze. The school bought the building with a three-year development goal.
“The $150,000 purchase price, if they complete their development plan, will go to $1,” the mayor said. “It is a great for the city and a great deal for the city and it’s a great deal for the psychiatric center property to have this beautiful old building restored and made into dormitories for Fei Tian College.”
The college previously purchased other buildings on the psych center property for dormitory space as it develops a second campus and a high school.
The main campus is located about 15 miles west of Middletown in the Huguenot area of Deerpark.
