Operation Safe Stop to enforce school bus enforcement this week

RAMAPO – The Ramapo Police Department will join law enforcement officers from around the state on Thursday, April 27 as they participate in “Operation Safe Stop.”
Police officers in marked and unmarked patrol cars will be on selected school bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints.
Officers will be looking for and ticketing motorists who fail to stop for school buses that are picking up or dropping off children.
The fine for a first-time offender of illegally passing a school bus is $250 to $500, five points on their license, and/or possibly 30 days in jail.
