BREWSTER – Sunny skies and pleasant morning temperatures greeted more than 1,000 men, women and children Sunday who participated in Putnam’s annual Heart Walk on the Brewster School District campus.
Sheriff Don Smith lauds Robin Zencheck and Jerry McCann
Perfect weather for the hundreds who participated
Heart Walk 2017 recognized Robin Zencheck of Mahopac who has undergone not one, but two, heart transplants.
The event also honored the memory of Jessi-Ann Bettcher of Brewster, a former Heart Walk honoree and heart transplant advocate, who lost her battle with heart disease last November at the age of 27.
A special guest was also recognized when Jerry McCann of Wisconsin participated in the Putnam walk. McCann received his heart transplant two years ago and after his recovery promised to participate in a heart walk in each of America’s 50 states. On Saturday McCann and his wife took part in the Connecticut Heart Walk.
Following opening ceremonies led by Sheriff Don Smith, Putnam County’s Heart Association Board chairman, the ribbon was cut and walkers began their journey to raise money for heart research.
