Two killed in early morning Sprain Brook crash

GREENBURGH – Two men in a car were killed early Thursday when the
driver lost control while on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the Town of Greenburgh
and struck a guide rail and tree.

State Police identified the victims as the driver, James Campion, 26,
of White Plains, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Pedro Mattos,
21, of Mount Vernon, who was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center.

State Police said preliminary investigation determined their car, a 1998
Honda Civic, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed at around
12:18 a.m. when Campion attempted to navigate around an uninvolved vehicle
and lost control.

Greenburgh emergency medical services responded to the scene. State Police
were assisted by Greenburgh Police, and city police from White Plains
and Mount Vernon.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call State Police at Hawthorne
at 914-769-2600.
