CAMP SMITH – Twenty-two
members of the 727th Military Police Law and Order Detachment of the New
York National Guard begin their one-year deployment with ceremonies at
Camp Smith in Cortlandt Manor today.

The Military Police Detachment provides specially trained staff and soldiers
to conduct law enforcement operations in a deployed environment. The soldiers
will depart New York next week for pre-deployment training at Fort Bliss,
Texas and are expected to return from service in Afghanistan in one year.

Members of the 727th MP Detachment served in Afghanistan in 2011-12, when
42 soldiers deployed to provide law enforcement support on US and coalition
bases. They returned home from their mission in November 2012 after a
one-year timeframe.

The detachment also deployed in 2006-07 when it served in Iraq for 15
months.
