TOWN OF WALLKILL – The proposal for the state to allow the Town of Wallkill to install red light cameras along the Route 211 shopping corridor is before the state legislature for the fourth year.
It was held up in committees for the past three years.
Town Supervisor Daniel Depew is hopeful it will be approved this year.
“It is probably in the top three or four things that people ask me on a day to day basis about are we doing the red light cameras, where are we getting the red light cameras or they believe they are already there, which is great because maybe they are stopping. We are hopeful that this year the senate and the assembly will be able to get the red light cameras approved,” Depew said.
One of the proposed locations for those cameras is on Route 211 at the traffic light in front of the Walmart entrance to the Orange Plaza, where motorists jump the red traffic light on a regular basis.
This will be Depew’s last month at town supervisor. He was just approved to become Sullivan County’s first deputy county manager.
