MONTICELLO – Congressman John Faso (R, Kinderhook) told business
and community leaders at a “diner breakfast forum in Monticello
sponsored by Kurlander Strategic Communications that he will support the
effort to investigate Russia’s influence on the US presidential
election.  He said Russia’s attempts were “clearly wrong…
but they have been doing it for generations.
“Right now they are attempting to influence the German election against Angela Merkel for reasons that Putin and Merkel are at odds on a whole host of issues,” Faso said. “Putin is attempting to play a very weak hand. Russia is a basket case economically. With the decline of oil prices in the last three years it is even worse, and so Putin is trying to play a very weak hand in a very aggressive fashion.”
The freshman lawmaker said the US must be a strong supporter of NATO
and the Baltic states in terms of Russian aggression there and in terms
of Russian aggression in the Ukraine.
