WHITE PLAINS – A New Rochelle man faces 25 years to life in prison
when sentenced in May for the murder of an Iona College student.
Stivenson Desir, 20, was found guilty on Tuesday in Westchester County Court of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Brandon Lawrence.
The victim was found face down in the center field area of a ball field in New Rochelle at around 3:20 a.m. on April 3, 2016 after police received calls of shots fired. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
New Rochelle Police and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office investigated and learned Desir and Lawrence had attended a party hours earlier at an apartment in the city described as off-campus housing used by Iona College.
Following the party, a group of five men who attended, including Desir
and Lawrence, went to Lincoln Park. While there, two of the men engaged
in a pre-arranged fist fight. As they were watching Desir pulled out a
handgun and fired at Lawrence, hitting him once in the torso killing him.
Later that day, Desir was located at his apartment and arrested.
