Vermont man killed in Thruway truck crash

ULSTER – A Vermont man,
who was driving a tractor-trailer north on the Thruway between New Paltz
exit 18 and Kingston exit 19 just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, was killed
when his vehicle rammed into the rear of another northbound tractor-trailer.
The truck driven by Vernon Bigelow, 47, of St. Albans, Vermont, ran off the highway after the collision, continued into the center median and struck a guiderail, catching fire, State Police said.
Bigelow died at the scene.
The driver of the other truck, Alex Calle-Cardenas, 28, of New Milford, Pennsylvania, complained of neck and back pain but declined transportation to a local hospital.
The accident was investigated by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. It remains under investigation.
