GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature on Thursday joined the growing chorus of those groups opposed to the governor’s commutation of Brinks’ robber Judith Clark’s prison sentence.
She was the getaway driver in the 1981 robbery of a Brinks armored car in Rockland County that left three law enforcement officers dead.
Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia said releasing Clark would be “a
slap in the face” tothe families of those murder victims and all
police officers.
“Hopefully we sent a strong message to the governor that this kind of leniency to hardened criminals is not going to be tolerated,” Bescia said.
Police chiefs and county officials from across the region have voiced their opposition to the commutation.
It is ultimately up to the state parole board to determine if Clark will be released from prison.
