Declines in area unemployment slow down

ALBANY – Unemployment in the Mid-Hudson Valley held steady for the most part in December 2016 as compared to December 2015. Region-wide, December 2016 unemployment was at 4.0 percent, down from 4.1 percent in December 2015.
Columbia County, which had the lowest rate in the region, came in at 3.6 percent, the same as it was one year ago.
Putnam County, with the second lowest rate, was tied in December 2016 and 2015 at 3.8 percent.
Rockland County, in third place, had 3.9 percent joblessness in the last month of both years. Dutchess County, which was tied for third place, fell by one-tenth of one percent, from 4.0 percent in December 2015 to 3.9 percent in December 2016.
Westchester County unemployment was at 4.0 percent in December of both years. Orange County, tied with Westchester for fourth lowest, saw 4.0 percent unemployment in December 2016, compared to 4.1 percent one year earlier.
Ulster County, ranked fifth lowest, had 4.3 percent joblessness in both Decembers.
Sullivan County unemployment fell from 5.1 percent to 4.9 percent and Greene County fell from 5.4 percent to 5.1 percent.
