GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus is expected to sign the local law that requires persons buying tobacco products to be at least 21 years of age.
Neuhaus said the law is aimed at reducing health issues by reducing the
number of smokers.
“It is something that the American Lung Association, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, all came together and spoke at the public hearing,” he said.  “There was almost next to nothing of any type of opposition. The only people that opposed to it, we got a letter from a group that represented some of the local gas stations and minimarts,” he said. “It is something that has seen very heavy support from the public and different public health organizations.”
The new law will take effect in June.
