Day after

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A four-alarm fire early Tuesday morning raged
through the Crestwood Apartments on Fitzgerald Drive off Route 211 in
the Town of Wallkill.

Two people were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in critical condition,
said Town Supervisor Daniel Depew.

A total of 18 apartments were destroyed; 17 were occupied. Police Chief
Robert Hertman said the 17 families are being assisted in finding alternative
housing.

The Silver Lake Fire Department, with the aid of several other area departments,
battled the blaze as flames shot high into the nighttime sky.

Volunteers braved the sleet and freezing rain that fell all through the
night, hampering firefighting efforts.
Hertman said police and fire officials are investigating the cause of
that blaze.
