POUGHKEEPSIE – Planning for construction of the new Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center may take longer than anticipated.
Legislator Greg Pulver, who chairs the Public Works and Capital Projects Committee and is a member of the Criminal Justice Council, said planning for the Justice and Transition Center, replacing the outmoded county jail remains in the early stages.
There’s “good news and bad news,” Pulver told county
legislators Monday night.
The ‘good’ is that they are finding some cost savings.  The bad, Pulver said, is that they are pushing the timeline back a bit with construction now not expected to start for at least another two years.
“We’re supposed to be designing right around now,” Pulver said.  “We’re looking at pushing that off to June and July, and the construction beginning September ’18 was the original plan and April of 2019 is the newest projections on that.”
Pulver said meanwhile, they continue to study the numbers and projections
on what the inmate population is likely to be in two years, or four years
when the Justice and Transition Center might open for business.

In other business during Monday night’s brief legislation session, lawmakers approved a funding agreement with the state to renovate the terminal at the Dutchess County Airport.
