MONTICELLO – The Monticello Police Department’s only K-9,
Deca, is going to receive a bullet- and stab-proof vest compliments of
the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The $1,050 cost
is being picked up by an anonymous donor. The vest is expected to arrive
in eight to 10 weeks.
Deca is a three-year-old German shepherd partnered with Police Officer Matthew Rohner. The team is trained in patrol service duties that include area and building searches, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, handler protection, tracking, crowd control and narcotics detection.
Since its inception in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 2,200 protective vests in all 50 states through private and corporate donations at a cost of over $1.9 million.
