GOSHEN – Fifteen towns
and villages in Orange County have been awarded a total of $1.08 million
in federal Community Development Block Grant money through the county’s
Community Development Office.
County Community Development Director Richard Mayfield said the projects are aimed at creating suitable living environments, providing affordable housing and generating economic opportunities. He said projects worth three times the total county allocation were sought by all the towns and villages in the county.
“We had over $3 million in requests for projects, but unfortunately we were not able to meet all of those requests and some of the projects ranged differently depending upon the activity,” Mayfield said.
The cities of Newburgh and Middletown have their own annual entitlements from the federal government. The City of Port Jervis applies through the state.
