GOSHEN – Orange County Parks and Recreation Commissioner Richard Rose will retire effective January 6 in the new year.
Rose has been commissioner since November 2008, managing a department that maintains over 3,400 acres of parkland.
Prior to working for Orange County, Rose served as the Town of Orangetown’s superintendent of Parks, Recreation and buildings from 1997 through 2008. He was the Town of Poughkeepsie’s director of Parks and Recreation from 1990 through 1997 and held the same title in the Town of Hyde Park before that.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus said he would immediately begin a search to replace Rose, who called “an asset” to the county department.
