SHANDAKEN – Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of a Phoenicia woman for allegedly poisoning another person with alcohol and drugs, resulting in death.
Solane Verraine, 62, is charged with murder 2nd.   The name and gender of the victim was not released by police, as of this morning.
On November 19th, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the Shandaken Police Department responded to 46 Route 214 (rear apartment) in Phoenicia, after receiving a call from the defendant to the Shandaken Police Department reporting a death at the location. Shandaken Police requested the assistance of Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Detectives after determining that the death was suspicious. The defendant was taken to the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center for questioning. Further investigation revealed that the defendant poisoned the victim with a combination of alcoholic beverages and prescription drugs.
The defendant was arraigned in Town of Hurley Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
The Shandaken Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office are being assisted in the investigation by members of the New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is preliminary and further information will be forthcoming.
