WASHINGTONVILLE – A section of Route 208 in Washingtonville will be named John Spear Way in honor of the longtime local resident and community leader, who died last year.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation sponsored by Senator William Larkin and Assemblyman James Skoufis.
Spear “dedicated himself to enriching the lives of local of local residents,” said Larkin. “Renaming the road in his honor is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to the betterment of his community and neighbors.”
Skoufis said renaming a section of the roadway “is fitting for such a pillar of the community.”
Spear was a member of the Washingtonville Planning Board for 50 years, founder of the Washingtonville CYO and was a pillar in his local church community.
