Newburgh man arrested in Town of Wallkill shooting

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Newburgh man is in the Orange County Jail without bail following his arrest in connection with the shooting and robbery of five men in the Town of Wallkill.
State Police said on August 31, five people who were on Greenway Terrace in the Scotchtown area of Wallkill were approached by two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and armed with handguns.
During the robbery, one victim, Myles Morales, 19, of Middletown, was shot four times. He remains hospitalized.
The two perpetrators fled in a gray car.
One of the accused robbers, Jaylin Smith, 18, was arrested on Friday night, October 14 during a traffic stop on Route 9 in Wappinger. He was charged with armed robbery, assault and criminal possession of a controlled substance as a misdemeanor. He had in his possession 47 small bags of heroin.  He was sent to the Orange County Jail without bail.               
State Police were assisted in their investigation by city police in Poughkeepsie and Beacon, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation into the shooting is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Wallkill at 845-344-5300.
