VALHALLA – Touro College has opened the first new dental school in New York in almost a half century at its New York Medical College campus in Valhalla.  The inaugural class of 111 students began their studies in July.
The school, known as Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College, received over $3.5 million in state funding earlier this year through educational capital and local assistance grants.
Touro College President Dr. Alan Kadish said the new school “will fill a void in dental education and improve access to oral health care, particularly in underserved rural and urban communities throughout the region.”
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino said the college will be “extremely beneficial to the county and our dental professional community, but it continues to put Westchester on the map as a leading destination for the medical and biotech industry.”
Touro College also operates a college of osteopathic medicine in Middletown at the campus of the former Horton Hospital.
