HIGHLAND FALLS – A bomb threat led to the evacuation of the West
Point Visitors Center in Highland Falls.

The facilities are located a short distance from the Thayer Gate.

A vehicle and package were examined and no threat or explosive device
was located, following an investigation by the State Police Bomb Disposal
Unit.

West Point spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker said a man was found
on the ground near the Thayer Gate claiming there was a bomb in his vehicle
outside the Visitor Center.

West Point Military Police and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies
also responded to the call.

The man was transported to an area hospital for what sources said was
a possible drug overdose or health issue.
