OTISVILLE – Police have identified the man who stood on commuter
railroad tracks near Otisville Monday night and was struck and killed
by an NJTransit train going from Hoboken to Port Jervis.

The victim, who MTA officials classified as a trespasser for being on
railroad property, was identified as Lewis Thomas Roemer, 19, of Hyde
Park.

Authorities said as the commuter train was heading toward the Otisville
station at 7 p.m., the engineer spotted Roemer walk onto the tracks. He
did not move as the engineer blasted the train horn and stepped on the
brakes in hopes of missing the man, who was struck and killed.

Roemer had a bicycle with him at the time of the incident.

No one on the train, which carried 18 passengers and crew, was injured.

MTA Police are continuing their investigation.
