OTISVILLE – A pedestrian was struck and killed in Otisville by a
New Jersey Transit commuter train Monday evening.

The incident occurred near Shoddy Hollow Road and Carboy Road in Mount
Hope.

New Jersey Transit operates the Metro-North service on the West Side of
the Hudson River.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Schneider said the engineer on Transit Train
#55 reported seeing an adult man step onto the tracks and make no effort
to get off them as he sounded the train horn. The engineer slammed on
the brakes in an effort to avoid hitting the man, who was pronounced dead
at the scene near the Otisville station.

The train departed Hoboken at 5:15 p.m. and was due in Port Jervis at
7:23 p.m.

None of the 18 passengers and crew onboard was injured.

The MTA Police were the lead investigatory agency in the incident.
